tradition of more than 40 years, is located in Teotitlán del Valle, a picturesque town in the central
valley of the Mexican state of Oaxaca. The town is well known for its weaving tradition as well as
for being an ancient settlement of the Zapotec culture still alive in the state, and in fact
maintaining its rich language, customs, and traditions right up to the present time.

Master weaver Porfirio Santiago Mendez and his
wife Gloria Bautista Gonzalez founded Artesanias "Casa Santiago"
weaving workshop in 1966, having inherited the knowledge of dyeing wool using natural and
vegetable colors, and then weaving, from their parents and grandparents.
They continue to pass on their artistry to their seven sons and daughters,
and to their seventeen grandchildren, thereby enabling the family to
preserve this integral part of the town’s identity and to share it with
everyone who visits them at their workshop on the main street of this
traditional Zapotec town, located at Ave. Juarez 70. You are cordially invited to pass by and meet the
members of the family, while at the same time learn about the weaving
tradition while being introduced to magical Zapotec hospitality of all the
people from this quaint and enchanting town in the Oaxaca valley.
